Life Enrichment

The Life Enrichment Club is for adults who are interested in enriching their lives through learning and creating new friendships. Meeting each month, September through May, programs begin with a covered dish lunch from 11:00am to 12:00noon, followed by a speaker who addresses various topics of interest, or an entertaining program lasting until 1:00pm. There is no charge for the programs. For more information please call the Parish Office at 412-833-2400.

Fall 2019 Series – 11:00am to 1:30pm – Gathering Place

September 11 – Pittsburgh’s Mansions

Author and historian, Melanie Linn Gutowski returns with another peek into Pittsburgh’s past. She will take us back in time to Pittsburgh’s Golden Age, from 1830 to the 1920’s. Her program will explore the history of that era through the extravagant and expansive homes that wealthy and prominent businessmen built in and around the city.

October 9 – Chernobyl: Causes, Cover-Up and Consequences

In 2016, local photographer, Michael Haritan traveled to the Ukraine to produce a photo documentation of the abandoned city of Pripyat and the last remaining inhabitants of the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone-the scene of the world’s worst nuclear disaster in 1986. His presentation will cover events of the accident, and give us a rare view of the place and people who once lived, worked and died there.

Our October Speaker, Mr. Haritan, asked the Life Enrichment Committee to put a call out for donations to the Sisters of St. Basil in Philadelphia. The Sisters visit the Ukraine annually to aid orphans and the needy. If you would like to make a donation, please bring an item of cold weather clothing in sizes from toddler to adult.

November 13 – Sarris Candies – The World’s Best Chocolates

Bring your sweet tooth with you this month for a presentation by Norm Candelore, Retail Operations Manager of Sarris Candies. Norm will tell the story of Western Pennsylvania’s favorite chocolate candy. It is the story of a small-town family business that grew into a chocolate empire. An empire that began with a box of chocolates for a sweetheart, and a recipe developed in a basement.
