The Life Enrichment Club is for adults who are interested in enriching their lives through learning and creating new friendships. Meeting each month, September through May, programs begin with a covered dish lunch from 11:00am to 12:00noon, followed by a speaker who addresses various topics of interest, or an entertaining program lasting until 1:00pm. Wednesday, January 9 – Park Rangers
We will be exploring history and hidden treasures in our own backyard with a presentation by the Allegheny County Park Rangers. Senior Ranger, Max Bader will be sharing information on the history and restoration work on some of the original stone structures of South Park such as the Cascade Pools and Vale of Cashmere as well as the work of Paul Riis, the Swiss born landscape architect who designed the Park in 1927. He will also update us on the effort of the Parks Dept., volunteers, and philanthropic groups to help preserve and highlight the rich heritage of the park.
Wednesday, February 13 – The Saints at the Chapel: Thrilling Tales of History’s Holiest Heroes
Local writer and storyteller, Christopher Reibold, aka “The Saint Story Guy” will share stories of some of the saints whose relics are housed at St. Anthony’s Chapel in Troy Hill. The Chapel is home to the world’s largest collection of saints’ relics outside Rome. He will bring to life the inspiring, miraculous and human stories of these holy heroes.
Wednesday, March 13 – The Life of Sir Winston Churchill
Sir Winston Churchill is considered to be one of the greatest figures of the 20th century. Soldier, statesman, writer, painter and public figure for more than sixty years. He served as Prime minister of the U.K. and led Britain to an allied victory in World War II. Historian and public speaker, Jack Puglisi, will introduce us to the life of this great orator who urged England to fight until the end … never, never surrender.
Wednesday, April 10 – Management of Chronic Pain
Dr. Ron Boron will be joined by two well-trained and experienced speakers – a Certified Nurse Practitioner, who will address procedures such as nerve blocks epidurals and medicines such as anesthetics and steroids, and a Pharm D (Doctor of Pharmacy) who will address pain medications, specifically the use of cannabinoid oil for treatment of chronic pain.
Wednesday, May 8 – Sassy Seniors
Wrap up the year with a fun cabaret style show featuring singing, dancing and comedy skits presented by the “young at heart” Sassy Seniors.
